The international academical scholarly journal Judaica Petropolitana was established as a joint initiative of the St. Petersburg State University and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem in 2013. Four academic institutions acted as the founding partners for the journal:
- Department of Jewish Culture (the St. Petersburg State University)
- Mandel Institute of Jewish Studies (Faculty of Humanities, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem)
- International Center for University Teaching of Jewish Civilization (the Hebrew University of Jerusalem)
- Chais Center for Jewish Studies in Russian (the Hebrew University of Jerusalem)

In 2013-2016, the JP has already published issues No 1, No 2, No 3, No 4, No 5 and No 6.
The JP publishes scholarly articles covering topics in the Hebrew Bible, Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha, the Dead Sea scrolls, medieval Jewish-Arabic literature, Jewish philosophy, history and culture of West and East European Jewry, Jewish languages, and other disciplinary issues in Jewish Studies. Besides, the other part of journal policy concerns with research and publication of manuscripts and documents from various St. Petersburg and Jerusalem archival collections.
All research articles published in the JP undergo rigorous peer-review by recognized world experts in the area of the topic.
The JP publishes material in Russian, English, French, Hebrew, and Yiddish.

At the moment, the Editorial Board welcomes submissions for No 7, planned for 2017.
