Keywords: Being, Cassirer Ernst, Cohen Hermann, Gadamer Hans-Georg, Hegel Georg Wilhelm Friedrich, Heidegger Martin, Kant Immanuel, Levinas Emmanuel, Neo-Kantianism, Ontology, Phenomenology, Sein and Dasein,The dispute in Davos, The philosophy of dialogue, Ursprung (Origin), World War I
The article deals with the dispute between M. Heidegger and E. Cassirer that took place at the Davos conference in 1929. This dispute is considered one of the key events in the intellectual life of the twentieth century. Even though the philosophical heritage of E. Kant and H. Cohen was discussed, the real subject of the discussion was the fate of religious philosophy, metaphysics, and ethics. The dispute in Davos is often considered in the historical-cultural context, in connection with Heidegger’s attitude to Nazism, anti-Semitism, etc. This article interprets the problematics of the dispute from the point of the philosophy of dialogue. From this point of view the philosophies of Heidegger, Cohen, Cassirer and Levinas have much more in common than meets the eye. The dialogical approach not only allows to overcome the deadlock in the opposition of Heidegger and neo-Kantianism, but also to continue the philosophical research, that was buried a long time ago in the general crisis of European culture.
