An attorney and political figure M. Vinaver symbolizes an involvement of a representative of the Russian-Jewish intelligentsia into the Russian political life at the turn of the 20th century. He was the leader of the liberal movement, both Jewish and Russian. He was strongly against Zionist movement. He published articles on the Jewish question as well as against Zionism and his leaders. At the same time he was one of the leaders of the most important liberal organization in Russia — the Party of Constitutional Democrats and a member of the State Russian Duma. Study of life and activities of M. Vinaver could serve as a key to our understanding of the processes which had been rather characteristic for the Russian Jewry during the epoch of political upheavals in the 20th century.
